Plainly stated, no surprises — the practical details of how fees, invoices, and retainers work once we’re engaged.
How Billing Works
Most matters require a small retainer to cover the initial work. After that, billing moves to a monthly invoice. If an invoice isn’t paid promptly, I reserve the right to stop work and withhold delivery of the work product until the account is current.
How My Hourly Rate Works
My hourly rate is $275, billed in minimum increments of one-tenth of an hour — six minutes. I review every bill personally before it goes out, to make sure the charges actually reflect the value delivered. Flat fees are available for select matters — see Basic Services for the menu.
How Outside GC Retainers Work
Outside GC retainers are set based on anticipated workload at the start of the engagement. If actual workload runs meaningfully different from that estimate, in either direction, I reserve the right to revisit and adjust the fee with reasonable notice. Specific terms are spelled out in your engagement letter.
How Engagement Letters Work
No work begins without a signed engagement letter spelling out the fee structure and exactly what matter is being handled. No ambiguity, no scope creep by accident — everyone knows what they agreed to from day one.
